The Owner/Operator of Whitewater Adventures is Michael Stratton.
Michael was an avid outdoors enthusiast from the time he could walk. Learning to hunt and fish with his father at a very young age ignited a passion for all things out-of-doors. From kayaking to mountain pack horse trips, Michael has done it all. Never one to be ordinary, he took an interest in things that most people only wish to accomplish on their bucket lists. |

Joining the local scout group only increased his thirst for knowledge, and left him wanting to know more. Expanding upon this training, he spent weekends with friends participating in such activities as fly fishing, rock climbing, hiking, and canoeing. Getting involved in a volunteer fire department in his early 20's increased his experience in areas such as wilderness rescue and medical first response, upon which he has continued to build a solid foundation of expertise. He continues to use these courses, as well as certifications as a Wilderness First Responder, National Life Guard, and Canadian Ski Patroller, and is currently the Head of Mountain Safety at Ski Wentworth. After graduating with honors from NSCC's Recreational Leadership program, he worked as a Recreation Director, and then moved on to Sport Nova Scotia. This experience was expanded upon when he began working in Adventure Therapy for youth at risk. Over the next number of years, in various provinces and in various positions, Michael worked as a Wilderness Expedition Guide. After much experience, he started his own company, Stratton Outdoors. |

This company branched out to include Expedition Guiding, providing wilderness interpretation, wilderness survival, managing various adventure companies, and finally, discovering Michael's true passion, dog sledding. He now owns SnowPak Kennels, a kennel of working sled dogs, and runs dog sledding tours from his kennel and throughout Nova Scotia. Currently, in addition to SnowPak Kennels, Michael also owns Whitewater Adventures, which provides Tidal Bore Rafting trips on the Shubenacadie River. SnowPak Kennels and Whitewater Adventures are both divisions of a new Stratton Outdoors Ltd., which continues to provide outdoor adventure and educational experiences to people of all ages.
